Deanne’s Journey

By on

Ever since I was young, I have wanted to be on stage performing. I started ballet at the age of three and with two big sisters already going to dance class, it was a very natural progression for me. My career in the dancing and performing industry started at the age of sixteen in Sydney, Australia. During that time, I was privileged to travel around the world touring with musicals and artists and eventually I landed a tour back-up dancing job for the iconic Sir Cliff Richard throughout Australia and New Zealand and later offered to join his UK tour.

After performing for a few weeks at the Royal Albert Hall in London, I had a break between concert dates so I decided to join a few agencies to see if I could pick up any extra gigs. It was this that made me go for my first casting and it happened to be for a part in the 80’s inspired Ministry of Sounds “Call on me” video by Eric Prydz. I landed the job of the aerobics instructor and later found myself dressed in a high cut black thong leotard, legwarms, sweatbands and not much else!

The song and video became a huge hit, as it was the first time a club track had made the pop charts at No.1 for more than 8 weeks!!! I had no idea when I was dancing, doing all these pelvic thrusts and jumping around that the video would go viral and it ended up in countries all over the world! This was a huge step for me in my career since I became the face behind the music video. (Oh and not to mention that my face and butt was basically planted on the front of CD covers everywhere!!) I went from being a dancer and then a few days later I became a well-known fitness dance guru! I had so many offers flying in and I ended up moving to London to pursue my career in the fitness/dance industry.

My next offer was to choreograph and present Ministy of Sounds first ever Fitness DVD “Pump it up,” which became one of the highest selling fitness DVD’s. I continued to make more DVD’s for Ministry and the Universal pictures. I also took on the role as a Fitness Presenter for GMTV’s (Britain’s Good morning TV) where I would wake up the country with various workouts. I wrote fitness columns and articles for various magazines and worked with many different celebrities in the industry.

Throughout this journey, I also met the love of my life, who happened to be a Australian! Things led to another and before we knew it, we were on our way back home to soon be married and start a family. We had a very fast, but for me emotional transition back and before I knew it, I was pregnant with my first bub. I was studying and teaching Pilates, Ballet Barre and pre and post-natal exercise.

Soon after, my baby arrived and I was in a wonderful baby bubble, but after an emergency c-sec I was left with what every other mumma experiences…big changes to my body!  Continuing being a loving mummy, I got my body back to feeling as strong as I could before finding out I was pregnant. I then was pregnant with bub No.2 which was also delivered via c-sec.

My life had changed A LOT to say the least and I didn’t realize it at the time…but I was feeling that I was missing something. I missed being free, laughing and being around my friends. It wasn’t just the move back to Sydney and the change in lifestyle that was making my feel down, it was the element of FUN that had disappeared from my workouts. Pilates and Barre are both fantastic disciplines and have given me a wonderful base for doing what I love, however they both lack a key element for me…. FUN! Be it on stage, or in a studio, the feeling of being empowered and leaving all your inhibitions out the door, just letting loose, feeling sexy and having fun are now my number one on my list.

So, after a couple of years of trying to find what was missing from my life, I realized that I had to chase what I truly wanted and to share it with the world. I wanted to bring something new to the industry… Something that hasn’t been done before. My goal was to empower women to be the best possible versions of themselves by working out to feel sexy and strong. That’s when I came up with my online program is called “Deanne Berry BODIES.”
